‘Violent and non-nuclear event occurred’ where Argentine submarine disappeared

Argentine Navy have confirmed that there was a “violent and non-nuclear event” consistent with an explosion in the area where a military submarine was lost with 44 crew members on board.

The event had been confirmed by sources, both from the U.S. and a nuclear testing control agency in Austria, which has a network of hydroacoustic seismic stations.

The cause of the explosion is still under review, no evidence suggests that it was caused by an external attack.

Three Argentine vessels have begun searching the area of explosion since Wednesday night.
Six more vessels joined the search team on Thursday.
