The Nigerian
Government will need to strengthen collaborations with religious bodies
and the private sector as a way of boosting the education sector and
improving on the quality of its products.
The bishop, catholic diocese of Otukpo
in Benue state, north central Nigeria, the most reverend Michael Apochi,
gave the advice during an educational re-evaluation workshop in Otukpo.
Apochi explained that the Catholic
Church has played a key role in the establishment and growth of
education institutions in the pre-colonial and post-colonial era in
Nigeria and will continue to do so.
Other speakers at the event commended
the catholic church for being in the fore front of educational
development in Nigeria but canvassed for increased attention and funding
by government to boost the quality of education in the country.
They however criticised the quest by
some Nigerians to acquire certificates through whatever means at the
detriment of merit and hard work and demanded punitive measures for
culprits.
